Tiny Bathroom? Try these for BIG Impact

I’ve seen tons of stuff all over the Internet/Pinterest saying diy space savers or maximize your bathroom space, when i clicked onto then though they never actually helped or it seemed to hard to time consuming to expensive or just pan to overwhelming for me to attempt to do these on my own. This morning though I came across a really great post with links to every idea, and where they got the items necessary to compete the project.

Which is pretty awesome, I’m quite amazed bc I too suffer from a tiny out dated bathroom that had no storage whatsoever, not even one single built-it cabinet… The only thing I love about my bathroom is the color of the tile, it’s lime green (yeah yeah it might scream 70’s but to me I love that color and want to restore as much add I can, but I’m in no shape to over haul my bathroom just yet. That why I found this past to be so helpful bc these are very inexpensive ways to add storage to the bath without breaking the bank or testing any thing out to add new…. Check it out

Easy Colorful Inspiration from bhg

Tons of things to do, the last week before the kids go back to school, as I sit here lacking any motivation to get up and get organized.
When I need a kick in the pants, I turn to my daily inspiration emails I get from my beloved bhg.com (Have I told you I love you… bhg I love you..) You turn my bad days into inspired goodness, if I didn’t have you my skies would be grey & gloomy..

This mornings inspiration came from this article

Anything with turquoise/chevron brightens me, (dont know why but that color/pattern makes me cheery and happy fills my thinking cap with lots of warmth and dusts off the cob webs and gets those gears grinding..

1. That is why I choose this painted and patterned buffet. Not to much just enough that it looks fresh and colorful, not only is blue calming its also fun. Add some shiny hardware (or paint the existing hardware a metallic while your at it do the hinges too)
image
For a more distressed look (that I like) use a fine grit sand paper to add the distress look to the corners and edges.

2. Roller Shades in Lime and Teal.. From the turquoise pendant light with the lime panels and the interesting pattern on the roller shades and the pillows this room is filled with colorful patterns.
Accent plain roller shades with fabric and spray paint the curtain rod to make the window treatment look new. The dresser is a one of a kind, I simply adore this look the aqua color as the base makes the white stenciling pop, then the lime colored hardware is like jewelry, eye candy for the dresser….

3. DIY make your own pouf. I’ve seen these every were but they are so expensive, but so cute.. Sew your own pouf. Get in on this hot trend without breaking your budget with these easy-to-follow instructions for making one of these stylish seats for well under $50.

To keep the project affordable, bhg used a $7-per-yard linen burlap fabric that is durable and easy to work with.
Here is a link to download pdf instructions on how to make your own. pdf file instructions on how to make this pouf

4.Find thrift store frames to adhere remnants of fabric and wooden letter to personalize for a spin on photo frames. Which there are many possibilities with this project from using your childrens precious art work, road maps, keys to your first house, use a layered frame to hide your thermostat, make fabric/paper flowers frame those.
image

5.I’ve had this similar idea for my entry way doors, by using clear contact paper or frosted, cutting out each shape into small Moroccan tiles then applying then to my entryway doors that are currently bare.
image

6.Concealed Storage
These mail boxes with the kids names on them are a great way to reuse an old mail box, just a little bit of spray pant and a label to write your child’s name on it and its ready to hang.
To hide art supplies, books, crafting goodies and other important items all you need is some fabric, a tension rod and hem tape and this look can be achieved within the hour.
image

7.Give the hutch in your house a facelift by painting it a fav color, then adding wallpaper or fabric to the back.
image

8. Revamp the Lamp….
Easy…Easy…Easy… To achieve this look its quite easy, all that is needed is a can of spray paint, ribbon, pins or glue and of course a lamp.

These are some of my personal favz that pack a punch of color… I will be trying these..

My Master Bedroom Inspiration

I have been searching for inspiration on how in the world am I going to fix up my room and please the hubz to feel he doesn’t belong in or room, and after searching for almost a year now I have found some great blogs that have inspired me to put together our room. Here is one of my favorites..

By using several pieces Kate previously owned she came up with an amazing master bedroom for her and her husband. How she put together a mini art gallery of pieces dear to her heart with a gorgeous touch.

This room is gorgeous, I love how romantic it feels, but not over the top by centsational girl. The bed’s fabrics make this room, along with the paint color.. Kate mixed it up a bit with the wall coloring ’s two blended together: ½ Ben Moore ‘Camouflage’ and ½ Ben Moore ‘Misted Green’

image
Love…Love… Love… The mirror plus how she centered it to make this gorgeous mirror and the bed the focal point of the room.

image
Another thing I can’t get enough if is this knock-off Dorthy Draper dresser… Originally a thrift store piece purchased in a dark color had taken up space in a different room that wasn’t in use very much. Added white paint, gold trim and now look at it. I still can’t get over the fact that this piece was a darker blue color, she did an amazing job.

image

This next photos are centered around a beautiful antique dresser, piece of art they purchased a long time ago, and flowers from around their backyard. Following the design rule of layering in three’s. Plus my personal favorite the wedding photo, looks as though out of a fairy tale. All pricessless pieces that tell a story of there lives together. Perfect art gallery, which gives me great inspiration of how to create something similar.

image
A bronze colored chandelier just the right size and color to add to this wonderful room… Kate really shows off how you can turn your bedroom in to a blissful retreat by decorating with pieces from around your home.. What a great job she’s done.

Remember, these photos were taken from censtational girl’s blog and is not my design. I love her design and wanted to give her credit for such a beautiful room she put together. I hope this has given you inspiration as it has given me.

Entryway Design Idea

We are fast approaching our 5th month in our new home, and I keep wishing and hoping if I just budget a little bite more, cut back on my BAD Tim Horton’s coffee addiction daily and not go into a single store for those spur of the moment shopping runs of oh I ran out of toilet paper or milk then maybe I can put $$$ aside for my decorating projects I’ve been day dreaming&dootling in my design notebook which has grown to 5 or 6 books now, lol…

Then, it came to me.. After running into centsational girl and viewing all of her amazing diy projects she’s done (& makes it totally look so easy plus her simple tutorials) my hubz (which i am forever grateful for, he can make/fix anything) and I could so totally do this on our own.

MY DIY DREAMLAND

I’ve been doing a lot of research on diy home improvements and I am very confident we can pull this off. Considering the fact as a little girl 4-5 years old while growing up I watched my dad build a 2 1/2 car garage with an attic & insulated it himself, also within that year he built a shed, within the following years remodeling the basement and re-doing the roof & siding.

I can’t hardly wait to try it out on my own. I swear I should’ve been an interior decorator. I love to look at the millions of possibilities a room can be done. I could sit for hours and look at different home decor & do it yourself magazines. You should see my collection…

Here is one of my personal favorite design of entryways/mudrooms I had found from centsational girl’s blog

image
This gorgeous entryway with white board & batten is a classic design

image
Just the basic board & batten has the feel of a Built-In look-a-like is very convincing..

image
Here these bronze hooks give this design a classic look to use for the whole fam

image
In this close-up the cove-molding builds one of this entryways characteristics of a built-in feel.

image
Simple floral decor is timeless approach

image
At this angle, the seamless ledge gives you added shelving for proud pictures to be displayed

image
Final pieces displays beautiful family photo’s (as art work)of the children that will enjoy this space for a lifetime to come.

Displaying photo’s of the family is the best part. I love the lil piggies…

Add a couple of jackets, toys and other outdoor essentials completes centsational girl’s basic board & batten project..

I can’t wait to re-do my entryway now, so much inspiration centational girl has given me, she did an amazing job, don’t you agree?

Addiction with Chevron

I adore Chevron, I’m still trying to figure out what it is that attracts me to it. Unfortunately I can’t figure that part out yet, maybe its the colorful pattern, or just about anything can go with it, chevron  doesn’t discriminate against any color. The possibilities are endless when using this amazing pattern.

We just moved into a new house at the end of February and so I’ve been searching inexpensive ways to update our home from bhg do it yourself magazine and threw emails that I get from other blogs in such.

This awesome post by Diane @ inmyowndesign.com posted this really cool exciting way to transform old thrift shop furniture into a beautiful chalkboard cabinet, also she gives 12 ideas on how to makeover a cabinet.. She also gives a couple free printable templates on how to active this look.

image

Here is another post she goes into detail of how to do the stencil and is very helpful, I have found my new found blog crush…

chevron-pattern-on-chalkboard.

And, the top chalkboard wreath she gives free downloadable templates on how to do this as well…

chalkboard_wreath_by inmyowndesign.com

To check out her blog go to http://inmyownstyle.com/2013/04/cabinet-makeover-free-printable-designs.html

I can not wait to try this out, I am especially excited to look for the bead board textured paintable wallpaper, I just want to say I love the way Diane designed this and I thank her for sharing this if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t know none of these things.

The other post I found is from bhg Do It Yourself magazine from Fall/Winter 2012 (i believe)

They show small diy vases to painting a whole wall of Chevron pattern…

Chevron Vase by bhg DIY

This is so inexpensive, you can go to the thrift shop and get vases for a $1.00 or less then use blue tape and do your chevron pattern.. Great thing about this is you don’t have to have this perfect, it is not a straight line..  This will give me practice to achieve what I would like..

Here is another post by Diane @ inmyownstyle

I absolutely love love love the way this looks, and again Diane has explainned from the very beginning to the end… She did such an amazing job with this once again it looks professionally made. There is tons of things she has on her blog tons of furniture make overs to small things like dollar store flowers. I will not be able to get anything done if I dont stop soon.

Chevron-Pattern-Chalkboard-_thumb

I hope I will be able to acchive these looks the way Diane did. I will post the 1st project very soon, I am working on it this weekend, however the kids go back to school Monday and School Planning Sunday is tommarrow  and the rest of homework for them and me so I doubt Ill be able to get very much done we will see….

HGTV’s Household Mysteries

Ever get those stubborn milky white stain on your wooden table?

Well I have, and I’ve spent forever trying to find out how to get these stains out.

Like this one…

image

I accidentally say down a hot glass dish on there and once I went to clean up this is what the dish left for me to stress over every single day I walk past it, reminding me what I did. I was seriously thinking about getting a new table over this stain..

image

HGTV’s September 2012 came out with an article about household mysteries, in the article it says to use this to bring out milky stains from natural wood floors.

image

At first I skipped over the article thinking there was nothing saying you could use this on table tops, only the floor.

Then, as I thought about it over and over and after looking at these hideous stains, I thought this is enough I will not be haunted by these stains not another day.

I was stunned at the results, it worked… I’m dancing around in excitement all around my kitchen Sunday afternoon with my husband lookin at me like I’m a nut. Wondering why in the world is she ironing the kitchen table???

Take a look…

Before
image

And now there gone….
After…
image

I’m so happy there gone, no more stains slapping me in the face anymore as soon as I enter the kitchen and all it took was an old tee shirt and my iron…

Here’s the trick

All you need is

A thin cloth
(an old white tee worked for me)
Your Iron
(on the lowest setting possible)

image

Instructions:

1. Wipe down your surface with a damp cloth no cleaners only water

2. On low or warm setting
(I used linen setting)

3. Spred the cloth over the stain, then iron, I recommend not keeping the iron in on spot, just use a slow circular motion.

4. Gently remove the cloth and the stain is gone, no more milky white yucky stain.
